Announcing the New Chair of the Messaging Evolution Lab: Tamer Aboalam from e& Group

The Messaging Evolution Lab (MEL) is pleased to announce that Tamer Aboalam, Director Global Messaging & Mobility | Strategic Leader at e&, has been appointed as the new Chair.

We also want to thank Pablo Mlikota, Senior Vice President International at e& Group, for his invaluable help as the first Chair of the lab when MEL was established. His dedication and contributions have been crucial in shaping what we have today. Best wishes to him in his new chapter.

Tamer is a telecom industry leader with 24 years of experience in wholesale roaming and messaging. He has led global strategies, business transformations, and industry collaborations across multiple markets. Some of his career highlights are at Syniverse, he played a key role for over a decade in expanding the company’s presence in MEA, driving its leadership in messaging and mobility.

At Telefónica Global Roaming, and while based in Germany, he managed the wholesale business of all Telefónica’s 16 opcos across MEA, Central & Eastern Europe, and the Americas, leading inter-operator agreements , optimizing roaming strategies, and reinforcing the group’s global partnerships. At EDCH, as Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing, he spearheaded a commercial transformation focused on expanding messaging and roaming services beyond legacy clearing, drove global sales growth, and led a major rebranding initiative.

Having lived and worked across four continents, speaking four languages, and having led international teams, Tamer brings a global perspective and a deep understanding of telecom dynamics.

Beyond his career, he is a dedicated athlete; he holds a black belt in Taekwondo, is a world cup bronze medallist in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and has completed multiple marathons and triathlons including Ironman 70.3 races.

As Chair of the Messaging Lab, Tamer is committed to driving the future of messaging. His leadership will be instrumental in shaping the next generation of messaging solutions.
