Charting the Course: Mobile Operators Converge in Rome to Shape the Future of M2M Roaming at M2MRL Meeting
M2M Roaming experts from Mobile Operators convened in Rome to attend the M2M Roaming Lab (M2MRL) face-to-face meeting taking place on March 7th & 8th, hosted by CKH IOD in their WindTre offices.
Rome, the eternal city, embodies a harmonious blend of past and present, setting a perfect scenario to evaluate previous achievements and discuss future opportunities for M2M Roaming. During the 2-day event, in a hybrid environment, over 30 operator representatives from Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America participated in interactive sessions and decided on the next steps for the M2M Roaming Lab.
“It was an amazing session as we made real progress to define guidelines for IO members on strategic topics. One of them was to define the best charging model to increase the M2M value for MNOs without increasing our costs on IT and back office. Operational implementation of BCE for M2M roaming agreement was also one of the discussed areas. Consequently, a new update of the M2M playbook will be published for IO Members at the End of June.”

Event Sponsor Comfone focused their presentation on M2M/IoT traffic transparency and monitoring, having extensive discussions with mobile operators on the diversity of needs and how to optimise the information being captured for more efficient reports. A hosted evening event by Comfone also gave the delegates the opportunity to network in a more relaxed environment during the first day.
The event concluded with a list of action points to tackle in the following months, including the engagement with regulators, and building a source of information for permanent roaming.
The M2M Roaming Lab will meet again face-to-face in Seville from May 22nd to 24th as part of the IO Plenary #06, co-located with ROCCO Genesis 2024. IO delegates can register now to confirm their participation in Seville.
